Man arraigned for allegedly destroying court property
A 22-year-old man, Mubarak Olarenwaju, was arraigned in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for attempting to escape after allegedly destroying court property.
The police charged Olarenwaju, whose house address was not given, with willful damage of court property and attempting to escape from lawful custody.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 7.
He alleged that the defendant removed the ceiling board of the court where he was being held pending his arraignment and attempted to escape from custody.
He told the court that the the roof collapsed on the defendant which attracted the court’s official who rearrested him.
The offemce, he said, contravenes the provision of sections 21(a) and 355 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Taiwo Popoola admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Popoola adjourned the case until Febuary 3 for mention.
