A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 28-year-old man, Ahmed Shuaibu, in a correctional centre for alleged armed robbery and culpable homicide.

The defendant, who resides in Rigasa Kaduna, is being tried for alleged criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide.

The Chief Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, however, refused to take the plea of the defendant for lack of jurisdiction and consequently directed the police to return the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The Chief Magistrate adjourned the matter until June 24, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, had told the court that the case was reported at the Rigasa Police Station, where it was transferred to the State Intelligence Department for further investigation on January 10 via a letter.

Leo alleged that on Dec. 12, 2021, the defendant along with two others now large, had forcefully broken into the apartment of one Iliyasu Garba (the deceased) at Makarfi Road Rigasa, while he was sleeping.

The prosecutor said the defendant and his two accomplices, who were armed, attacked, robbed and killed Garba and his security guard.

He alleged that a threat text message found on the deceased phone, led detectives to the arrest of the defendant while his accomplices fled.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 1 (2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, 2004 and Sections 59 and 190 of the Kaduna State Pedal Code, 2017.
