LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT CHAPTER! Drogba announces retirement from football

Chelsea legend and Ivory Coast striker, Didier Drogba, has announced his retirement from football.

The 40-year-old who won four Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League with the Blues made the announcement on his Instagram page.

Drogba also won four FA Cups and three League Cup victories during his time in west London.

The 40-year-old scored 164 goals in 381 games during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Drogba spent the last 18 months of his career with US club, Phoenix Rising, which he was also a co-owner.

The veteran striker took to his Instagram page to announce his retirement, stating that he has had an โ€œamazing 20 yearsโ€™โ€™ in his professional career.

Drogba wrote:

โ€œ1989 or where it all started!! When I think of the last 20 years of my professional career, looking at this picture canโ€™t make me more proud of what Iโ€™ve achieved as a player but most importantly how this journey has shaped me as a man.

โ€œIf anyone tells you your dreams are too big, just say thank you and work harder and smarter to turn them into reality. #alwaysbelieve

โ€œI wanna thank all the players, managers, teams and fans that I have met and made this journey one of a kind!!!

โ€œAlso a huuuuge thank you and love to my family.

โ€œMy Personal Team for supporting my entire career during all the ups and downs no matter what.

โ€œLooking forward to the next Chapter and hoping God will bless me as much as he did for my football career DD11.โ€

Drogba played for Le Mans and Guingamp before joining Marseille, who he left for Chelsea in 2004 for a then club-record ยฃ24m deal.

He left Chelsea to join Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua in the summer of 2012, but six months later moved on to Galatasaray in Turkey before returning to Stamford Bridge for a brief spell in July 2014.

A move to MLS franchise Montreal Impact followed and Drogba stayed in the US to take up the role at Phoenix.
