6 things to know about new Super Eagles Coach Le Guen
On Tuesday, punchonline.com reported that the Nigeria Football Federation officials have settled for Frenchman Paul Le Guen as the next Super Eagles coach.
Here are 6 things about the Frenchman.
1. Paul Le Guen was born on March 1st, 1964.
2. He was capped 17 times by France and was part of the team, which included Eric Cantona and David Ginola, that lost out on the trip to the FIFA World Cup, held in the United States in 1994.
3. Le Guen’s most successful stint as manager was at Olympique Lyonnais. He won four consecutive Ligue 1 titles. He resigned on May 9th, 2005 – a day after winning the fourth title.
4. He qualified Cameroon for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Cameroon were the first team to be knocked out of the competition. He announced his resignation on 24 June, 2010.
5: He joined Oman on 11 June, 2011. He led the team to qualify for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. Oman were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament with one win and two losses. He was relieved of his position on 19 November, 2015.
6. During his playing career, Le Guen played at Stade Brest for six years, Nantes Atlantique for two years, before leaving Brittany for Paris St. Germain where he played for seven years (with 478 appearances and a Cup Winners’ Cup medal in 1996).
