Former Senate leader and Oyo state APC governorship candidate for the 2023 elections, Senator Teslim Folarin, and House of Representatives Member Abass Adigun, representing Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency, have expressed their condolences to the victims of the Ibadan explosion.

The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Oyo State capital.

In a statement released by Folarin’s media aide on Wednesday, the former Senate leader conveyed his sympathy to those who lost loved ones and those who sustained injuries.

Folarin expressed his thoughts and prayers for the affected families and commended the state government’s prompt intervention.

Folarin stated, “I urge for calm among the residents of the affected areas while we await the outcome of the constituted authorities’ full investigations into the remote and immediate cause of the explosion.” He concluded by praying to Almighty God to comfort all those affected.

Similarly, Reps Member Abass Adigun, also known as Agboworin, praised the state government’s swift response to the incident. He expressed shock at the extent of the destruction caused by the explosion, attributing it to negligence from illegal miners storing explosive devices.

Agboworin commended Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to covering medical bills and providing temporary accommodation for affected residents.

He expressed hope that such a devastating incident would not recur in the city and the state at large.

In response to the incident, Governor Seyi Makinde revealed preliminary investigations indicated that explosive devices stored by illegal miners caused the explosion. While further investigations are ongoing, the governor assured that those found culpable would be held accountable.

The explosion resulted in the loss of lives, injuries, and extensive damage to properties in various areas of Ibadan, including the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, and residential neighborhoods.

The state government, along with security agencies, is actively engaged in search and rescue operations.
