The Lagos State University has dismissed two lecturers for misconduct involving fraud, sexual harassment, and abuse of students.

The university’s Governing Council approved the dismissal at its 143rd statutory meeting held on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

According to a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel Fanu, the affected lecturers are Dr Olatunji Abanikanda, former Dean of the School of Agriculture at the Epe campus, and Dr Khadeejah Kareem-Ibraheem, Coordinator of the Department of Animal Sciences at the same campus.

Dr Abanikanda was found guilty of forcing 400-level students to stay on the school farm from 6:30 am to 10:00 pm without food, water, or breaks, even during heavy rain. The incident came to light after a video showing students drenched in rain went viral.

He was also accused of sexually harassing female students and using threats and insults on both staff and students. Fanu said Abanikanda also collected money from staff and students without authorisation.

In the same statement, the registrar said Dr Kareem-Ibraheem was dismissed for not following university procedures and for failing to remit N10.6 million from farm produce sales into the university’s account. Instead, she kept the money in her personal bank account.

Fanu said the actions of both lecturers were classified as serious misconduct and went against the university’s rules for senior staff.

The university said it would continue to uphold academic and administrative standards.
