The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has dismissed claims that he received financial inducement from proxies of the All Progressives Congress to support the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde.
He described the allegation as untrue and driven by political motives.
Responding to the accusations, the Speaker maintained that no financial transaction took place at any meeting, insisting that the claims were fabricated to damage his reputation and create instability within the state’s executive and legislative arms.
“I was presented with juicy offers and opportunities, but I declined without hesitation because nothing can sway my conscience or weaken my loyalty to the governor, the party, and the people we were elected to serve. I remain fully committed to upholding the integrity of this House and will not be part of any agenda aimed at destabilising the government we built,” he said.
Mr Ogundoyin emphasised that he remains committed to the mandate given to him by the electorate and would not take any action capable of undermining the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
He reiterated his firm allegiance to both the governor and the ruling party, assuring that attempts to create division between him and the administration would not succeed. He also stressed that the Assembly, under his leadership, continues to prioritise constitutional governance, accountability, and the welfare of the people.
The Speaker further noted that he has consistently kept Governor Makinde informed of his official engagements, reinforcing transparency in his dealings.
Addressing separate claims regarding his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Mr Ogundoyin clarified that the meeting was purely consultative and had taken place weeks before the recent controversy. According to him, the visit was intended to formally inform the monarch of his governorship ambition and to seek royal blessings, in line with tradition and respect.
He urged members of the public to disregard what he described as baseless claims aimed at causing division among the state’s political leadership.
