14 LASTMA officials to face disciplinary panel for extortion

Fourteen officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority have been implicated in extorting money from motorists at different locations in the state.

These officials, comprising 11 senior cadre and three junior cadre personnel, are now set to face a disciplinary panel.

A statement from LASTMA’s Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, made available to the media on Sunday, announced the disciplinary measures. According to the agency’s General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the cases against these officials have undergone investigation, and the next step is for them to appear before the disciplinary panel.

Oreagba explained, “The 14 male officers (11 seniors and three juniors) were caught at different locations across the state extorting money (bribes) from motorists.”

He also stressed the agency’s commitment to taking stringent action against officers who engage in unlawful activities and damage the reputation of LASTMA.

In a call to action, Oreagba urged residents, particularly the motoring public, to report any misconduct by LASTMA officers by promptly contacting the nearest LASTMA offices or using the agency’s dedicated complaint hotlines.

Oreagba stated, “We hereby called on residents, especially motoring public to support us by promptly reporting any errant Officers at the nearest LASTMA offices or use any of the Agency’s complaints hotlines-08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515 & 08129928597- with proof of evidence.”
