Lagos to end unauthorized dredging operations
The Lagos State Government has committed to halt unauthorized dredging activities and expel operators lacking government permits.
This announcement was made by Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, during a meeting with the Dredgers’ Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter’s executive council members on Saturday, as reported by The PUNCH.
Bush-Alebiosu stressed that the meeting aimed to garner the association’s support in implementing guidelines regulating dredging activities.
He also communicated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s firm stance against illegal dredging operations in Lagos State.
Moreover, the commissioner highlighted that the meeting served as a platform for dialogue with the association’s members to understand how to improve dredging activities.
He encouraged the association to collaborate with the government to eliminate illegal dredging.
The government’s dedication to upholding the law in this matter was strongly underscored during the meeting. Bush-Alebiosu warned, “Any individual found breaching state laws and regulations on dredging will face legal consequences.”
