The Lagos State Government will close part of Osborne Road in Ikoyi for two days to allow drainage works, starting from 10pm on Friday, August 15, to midnight on Sunday, August 17.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said on Tuesday that the work is to connect the new drains along Modupe Alakija Crescent to the underground channel beneath the median on Osborne Road. He explained that the project will involve cutting a section of the road before Foreshore Towers.
“In line with efforts to improve the drainage system on Modupe Alakija Crescent and its environs, there is a need to connect the newly constructed drains, via a cross culvert, to the underground channel beneath the median along Osborne Road,” Osiyemi said.
He added that traffic would be managed through a counterflow arrangement on Osborne and Alfred Rewane Road, covering about 100 metres from Modupe Alakija Crescent to the Alfred Rewane Road junction.
“Motorists heading to Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road will be diverted into a contraflow lane inbound Osborne Road before reconnecting to their normal lane. Motorists inbound Alfred Rewane Road from Osborne Road will be restricted to one lane to allow the counterflow,” he explained.
For alternative routes, Osiyemi advised motorists from Osborne Road heading towards Alfred Rewane Road to use Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue to connect Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road. Those heading towards Osborne Road from Alfred Rewane Road should use Glover Road, Lugard Avenue, or Cameron Road to connect Oba Adeyemi Oyekan Avenue.
Osiyemi said the road will be fully reopened on Monday, August 18, and that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be on the ground to ease movement.
