Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident claims 13 lives

13 persons were killed and 12 others injured in a road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The accident occurred on Wednesday around 4pm when a commercial bus reportedly rammed into a stationary waste disposal truck.

According to the report, nine persons lost their lives on the spot while 16 others sustained injury but four others died shortly after they were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, confirmed the incident.

He said the accident involved an unregistered Volvo Truck loaded with waste disposal and a Mazda Commercial Bus with number plate APP 28 YE.

“25 people which comprises nine male adults, eight female adults, and eight minors.

“12 people comprising five male adults, three female adults, and four minors sustained injury.

“13 people comprising four male adults, five female adults, and four minors were presumed dead.

“The injured victims were rescued to Idera hospital while the presumed dead bodies were also deposited at Idera private morgue.

“The accident vehicles have been towed to Sagamu Police station.

Akinbiyi explained what led to the accident saying it was learnt that the commercial bus was coming from Lagos when it wrongly overtook the vehicle in front and rammed into a stationary truck at the roadside.
