A magistrate court in Lagos has sentenced 14 individuals after they were arraigned on several charges related to cable theft and vandalism at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 1 construction site.

The suspects were arrested around 19:00 hours on April 20, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation carried out by security personnel of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in collaboration with the Joint Military Task Force (JMTF) and other agencies stationed at the airport.

While delivering judgment, the court imposed a one-month jail term on the first count, six months on the second, and twelve months on the third count, with all sentences to run concurrently.

The matter has been adjourned until June 16 to allow for further proceedings, particularly concerning one defendant who challenged the charges.

In a separate case, two other individuals facing charges over the theft of alcohol were also arraigned before the court. Although both initially admitted guilt, they later contested aspects of the prosecution’s claims, prompting the court to adjourn the case to June 30 for continuation.

Meanwhile, a juvenile connected to a related incident was present in custody during the proceedings. Authorities confirmed that the minor has been returned to the police station for further handling in accordance with legal procedures guiding juvenile cases.
