The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday rescued a two-month-old baby boy from a couple, Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam, during the child’s naming ceremony.

The Spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement shared on his personal page on X, stated that the Uwams had paid N2,350,000 to acquire the baby from Loretta Nelson, a suspected child trafficker.

Hundeyin said that detectives from the Oko-oba Police Division arrested the suspects following a report from the mother of the baby boy.

According to him, the mother of the child reported that one of the suspects absconded with her son to an unknown destination on July 11.

Hundeyin revealed that Udoh had initially bought the baby for N500,000 from another alleged trafficker, Gloria Sunday, who had stolen the baby on July 11, 2024.

Nelson, in turn, had purchased the baby from Pastor Peter Udoh for N1,450,000.

Pastor Udoh, who was arrested in Ikene Town, Ogun State, admitted to reselling the child to Nelson for N1,450,000.

Nelson, subsequently apprehended in Festac Town, Lagos, confessed to selling the baby to Mr. and Mrs. Uwam for N2,350,000.

The PPRO said, “Detectives swung into action which led to the arrest of Gloria Sunday who during interrogation confessed to selling the baby for N500,000 to one Pastor Peter Udoh.

“Pastor Udoh, who was subsequently arrested in Ikene Town, Ogun State, admitted reselling the child for N1,450,000 to one Loretta Nelson who was then also apprehended in Festac Town, Lagos.”

The Uwams were apprehended during the naming ceremony of the stolen child.

Hundeyin emphasized that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will face court proceedings upon the conclusion of the investigation.

”All suspects will be arraigned in court after investigation,” he said.
