The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, says it plans to shore up its internally generated revenue by harnessing potential in the tourism sector in Kwara State.

The institution made its intention known on Wednesday when its sub-committee on tourism initiative visited the Deputy Governor of Kwara, Kayode Alabi, to apprise him of the management’s resolution to tap into the tourist opportunities in the state.

Chairman of the sub-committee, Prof. Abduljeleel Ojuade, said the purpose of the visit was to seek intervention of Kwara State Government in transforming the Sobi Hill to a tourist attraction.

Ojuade said this would in turn serve as revenue spinning venture for both the state and the institution.

He further disclosed that such move would not only open up opportunities for local and international tourists, but also bring about jobs and wealth creation in the state.

In his response, the deputy governor tasked the sub-committee to submit a workable proposal to the state government, and gave assurance that Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq would welcome such proposals.

Alabi, however, urged the delegation to be forward-thinking in the area of wealth creation for the university, as many untapped economic ventures and opportunities were waiting to be explored.
