Kwara police launch manhunt for killers of monarch


Following the tragic murder of the retired Army General and traditional ruler, Onikoro of Koro, Oba Aremu Olusegun Cole, the Kwara State Police Command has pledged to apprehend and prosecute the assailants responsible for the deadly attack.

In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, on Friday, the Kwara State Police Command expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident that occurred in Koro, Ekiti Local Government Area. The gunmen invaded the palace of Onikoro, resulting in the loss of the monarch’s life and the abduction of his wife and one other.

The police assured the troubled residents of Koro town that every effort would be made to bring the killers to justice.

The statement read, “Immediate and intensive investigations are underway to apprehend those criminals for this reprehensible act. We assure the public that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators are brought swiftly to justice.”

Security measures in the Koro community have been heightened, with tactical teams mobilized to enhance safety and well-being.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor OLAIYA, expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the affected community, emphasizing the commitment of the Kwara State Police Force to safeguarding lives and property.

The statement also appealed to the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative while the police work tirelessly to unravel the matter and bring the culprits to justice.

The Kwara State government had earlier confirmed the tragic incident, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq condemning the killing and abduction.

The governor charged the security agencies to spare no resources in tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring the release of the abducted individuals.

In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRazaq stated, “We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity. My profound condolences go out to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”
