Katsina relaxes curfew in Dutsinma LGA
The Acting Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Jobe, has lifted the 24-hour curfew imposed on Dutsinma Local Government Area and 33 other local government areas in the state.
The curfew, which restricted movement from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, was put in place due to security concerns.
In a meeting with the State Security Council on Monday evening, Jobe decided to review the curfew after receiving reports of improved security in the Dutsinma area.
However, the ban on unusual gatherings and all types of protests will remain in effect throughout the state.
Jobe praised the security forces for their efforts in managing recent unrest. “I appreciate the civil manner in which security agents handled the hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful protests for criminal activities,” he said.
He also thanked parents, guardians, and community leaders for their role in discouraging youths from joining the criminal elements.
Following the recent violence, lootings, and vandalization, the State Security Council has announced the arrest of several youths. Some of those arrested have already been charged with criminal conspiracy, causing public disturbance, vandalization, and theft.
Barrister Abdullahi Faskari, Secretary to the Katsina State Government, urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
“The Security Council appeals to everyone to stay peaceful as we work to ensure the safety of lives and property,” Faskari said in a statement signed by Director of Press, Malam Abdullahi Yar’adua.
