The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended five individuals for the illegal possession of an AK-47 rifle in Kurmi village, Bakori Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu in a statement to newsmen on Wednesday in Katsina, stated the arrests were made on December 19, 2023, following credible intelligence.

Sadiq-Aliyu, provided details of the operation, saying, “Our operatives attached to Bakori divisional police headquarters, in collaboration with members of the vigilante while on patrol, successfully identified and apprehended five suspects.” The suspects were identified as Sharhabilu Dahiru (20), Abubakar Tukur (25), Kasamanu Abdullahi (20), Abdulrahman Shu’aibu (20), and Sulaiman Sanusi (20), all from Kakumi village, Bakori LGA.

The police spokesman highlighted the seriousness of the crime, indicating that the suspects were immediately invited for further investigation into the illegal possession of the AK-47 rifle.

During questioning, the suspects confessed to stealing the firearm from the residence of Jamilu Lawal in the same village.

“All suspects are in custody as the investigation proceeds,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated.
