Despite moves by the Kaduna State Government to renegotiate its demands, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kaduna State University chapter, has commenced a two-week warning strike to press for the full implementation of its demands.
The decision followed a meeting held by ASUU-KASU on Thursday, where union leaders reached the resolution after hours of extensive deliberations on the issues affecting its members.
Hundreds of lecturers who participated in the meeting also insisted that they would not be pressured into accepting the N300 million earned allowances approved by the state government, stressing that several other outstanding matters, including the 25-35 percent agreement, university autonomy and promotion arrears, among others, remain unresolved.
In a statement posted on the union’s official Facebook handle, ASUU-KASU said, “owing to the expiration of the warning which elapsed today (Thursday). We have to come back to tell members what has so far transpired since we issued the two-week warning on 12th August,2026.
“And after serious deliberations, it was agreed we embark on a two-week warning strike after which we will come back to take a definite stand. And this is if, at the end of the two weeks, nothing is forthcoming, we have to close the university.
As at the time of filing this report, the union leaders were still meeting with the negotiation committee constituted by the state government.
