Motorists using Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway may experience traffic delays. This is because the Federal Ministry of Works begins the replacement of an expansion joint on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
According to a traffic advisory issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the Kara Bridge repairs are expected to last two weeks. The road will reduce from four lanes to two within the construction area. Therefore, this will cause partial disruption along the busy route.
The ministry urged motorists to leave early and allow additional time for their journeys throughout the repair period. Road users should also consider alternative routes where possible. In particular, this applies during peak hours when traffic around Kara Bridge is usually heavier.
Motorists advised to plan ahead
Traffic management officials will be stationed around the work zone to control vehicular movement and reduce congestion. Drivers have been advised to obey their instructions, avoid reckless overtaking and maintain safe distances while approaching the narrowed section.
The Kara Bridge repairs come amid growing concerns about movement along the corridor. These concerns follow several road accidents reported around the bridge within one week.
Kara Bridge serves as a major link for motorists travelling between Lagos, Ogun and other parts of the country. Any reduction in the number of available lanes could therefore affect traffic around Ojodu Berger, Arepo, Magboro and adjoining communities.
Authorities have appealed for patience and cooperation from road users while the Federal Ministry of Works completes the project.
