The All Progressives Congress has reaffirmed its commitment to securing victory for its candidates in the 2027 general elections after concluding a three-day strategic retreat in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The party also passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The resolutions followed the APC’s 195th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting and National Strategic Retreat, which ended in Maiduguri on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, said the party had reviewed its structures and was satisfied with its level of unity and preparedness for the forthcoming elections.
“We get a clean bill of health with the APC as a party. I trust strongly that the party is strong, the party is healthy, the party is prepared, and the party is oiled for the 2027 General Elections.”
Yilwatda said the NWC had unconditionally endorsed Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate and Shettima as his running mate, while also backing candidates who emerged from the party’s primary elections for other elective positions.
“We pass a vote of confidence on our presidential candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, and all the other candidates of our party that were elected in the primary elections for the 2027 general election,” he stated.
The APC chairman also defended the quality of candidates produced through the party’s primary elections, describing them as qualified and adequately prepared to contest elective positions across the country.
“We strongly believe that we produce some of the most pedigreed candidates, most acceptable and the most prepared to be elected to serve the people of Nigeria.”
The party also resolved to strengthen its internal reconciliation efforts as part of measures to address disagreements and promote greater unity among its members.
Yilwatda said reconciliation committees would be encouraged at the state, local government and ward levels to resolve grievances and improve cohesion within the party.
“We resolved that we must continue to make reconciliation where we need to make reconciliation at all levels,” he said.
“The effort to constitute reconciliation committees at the state, the local government, and also at the ward level [will be intensified]. We encourage the state chapters to constitute reconciliation committees where it is not done.”
The APC further resolved that members of the NWC would take a more active role in the party’s campaign activities as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
“The National Working Committee also resolved to lead the campaign from the front and all the engagement of the party to ensure total victory for all our candidates in the forthcoming general elections,” the communiqué stated.
The retreat, themed “Strengthening Party Organization, Unity and Electoral Readiness Towards 2027,” began on Thursday, September 24, and ended on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
It brought together members of the NWC, state party chairmen and other stakeholders from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to assess the party’s organisational strength, address internal issues and review its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
