The Kano State Police Command has taken a police officer into custody over the alleged shooting and killing of a teenager, Salisu Player.

The incident led to protests in Kurnar Asabe, Fagge Local Government Area of the Kano metropolis.

According to reports, the police officer fired shots without receiving any command to do so. Witnesses disclosed that the police were called to intervene in a fight between two rival street groups known as “Yan Daba.”

Eyewitnesses claim that when the police arrived, they began shooting to disperse the crowd, resulting in the tragic death of Salisu Player.

The initial fight, according to a source, erupted due to a disagreement over a young woman, leading to clashes between the rival groups that persisted for several days.

Haruna Kiyawa, the police spokesperson in the state on Wednesday, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Gumel, has taken swift action by constituting a Board of Inquiry.

The Dala Area Commander, ACP Nuhu Mohammed Digi, has been directed to lead the preliminary investigation into the shooting.
