Korean actor and former model Song Jae-rim renowned for his role in the 2012 drama series The Moon Embracing the Sun has tragically passed away at 39.
The popular actor was found dead at his home in Seoul last Thursday, according to Seoul Seongdong Police Station.
A police spokesperson said, “Currently, there is no evidence of foul play,” as reported by The Korea Herald. The cause of death has not yet been released.
Song Jae-rim rose to fame through his role in the 2012 hit drama The Moon Embracing the Sun, where he played a bodyguard, earning him widespread admiration.
He went on to star in well-loved TV dramas, including Cool Guys, Hot Ramen, Two Weeks, Unkind Ladies, and Queen Woo.
He was also active on stage, most recently performing in the musical La Rose De Versailles in October.
Starting his career as a model, Song worked with top designers and appeared in magazines such as Bazaar Korea, GQ Korea, Esquire Korea, and Marie Claire Korea. He debuted as an actor in 2009 with the film Actresses and also featured in music videos for popular K-pop groups like 2NE1, KARA, and BOA.
In 2014, Song gained more popularity with his appearance on the reality show We Got Married, where he was paired with actress Kim So Eun, and the two “pretended to be married” on screen, capturing fans’ hearts.
The actor had recently updated his Instagram with the message, “A long journey begins,” which has taken on added meaning for his fans.
Song’s funeral is scheduled for Thursday at Yeouido St. Mary’s Funeral Hall in Seoul.
