JUST IN: Why NAFDAC has not approved herbal remedy for COVID-19 treatment – Adeyeye
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Sunday explained why the regulatory body has not approved any locally produced herbal medicine for the treatment of coronavirus.
This is just as the agency warns researchers in the nation’s ivory towers and other herbal medicine practitioners to desist from parading unverified medicinal products as a potential cure for the virus, without due approval from NAFDAC.
In a statement issued by Sayo Akintola, resident media consultant of the agency in Abuja, NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye disclosed that failure to get secure approval is a violation of the national regulation and protocols.
She also warned the public to be on alert as no single drug has been discovered to cure COVID-19.
According to her, medicinal products that are available can only help ease symptoms and up the odds of survival.
