The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody a well-known social media personality, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly called Peller, after a video showing him driving dangerously and crashing his vehicle went viral on social media.
Confirmation of the arrest was contained in a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, and shared with PUNCH Online.
The police said the incident, which sparked widespread public condemnation, occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
According to the command, the influencer’s actions were considered a major threat to public safety, prompting swift intervention by law enforcement authorities.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement read in part.
The police described the conduct as extremely hazardous, stressing that it had the potential to cause loss of life beyond the suspect himself.
“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people,” the statement added.
Authorities further revealed that the matter has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where a comprehensive investigation into the incident is currently underway.
