Chief Executive Officer and founder of Tesla, Elon Musk, on Wednesday revealed that auto lovers are now opened to the option of securing the automobile with bitcoin payment in the United States.

Musk who made the announcement via his verified Twitter account further noted that the option to pay using the cryptocurrency has been effected on the company’s website.

The industrial designer added that aside from the use of bitcoin, customers still have the traditional card payment option.

While emphasising that the option is only available to customers in America, Musk said that the option to pay with bitcoin would be available to other countries “later this year.”

“Tesla is using only internal & open source software & operates Bitcoin nodes directly.

“Bitcoin paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency,” he warned in a follow-up tweet.

Meanwhile Tesla Inc. lays out how the bitcoin payment process works in a Frequently Answered Questions on its site, where it notes that users would have the option of scanning a QR code or copying and pasting its bitcoin wallet address to initiate the payment.

According to Tesla’s bitcoin payment terms and conditions, its cars will continue to be priced in US dollars, and customers who choose to will pay the equivalent value in bitcoin.
