JUST IN: Buhari in closed-door meeting with Abdulsalami
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is reportedly having a closed-door meeting with former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, in Aso Villa, Abuja.
The news was revealed by the Personal Assistant on New Media to the President, Bashir Ahmad.
Ahmad tweeted via his verified Twitter account that his principal received former head of state on Friday afternoon.
“President @MBuhari receives in audience former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd.) at the State House, Abuja,” Ahmad tweeted.
In a separate audience, the president was said to have earlier met with Chairman of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohammed Buba Marwa.
Although the presidential aide did not disclose the purpose of the meeting, political buffs say it may not be unconnected to the security challenges plaguing the nation in recent time.
They also believed that it may have one or two reasons to do with state of the nation and the rising calls for secession by various groups in the country.
Abdulsalami was Nigeria’s Head of State between June 1998 and May 1999 when he handed over power to the democratically-elected government of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He is also Chairman of the National Peace Committee.
