JUST IN: Bandits receive N5m, 100 handsets, five motocycles for Niger District Head wives’ release

Two weeks after they were kidnapped by bandits, the two wives of the District Head of Zungeru in Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State have regained their freedom.

The Nation reported the two women were released after the relatives and villagers raised N5 million, 100 handsets and 5 Bajaj motorcycles as ransom.

Meanwhile, Mallam Mustapha Madaki, the District Head who was abducted alongside his wives, is yet to regain freedom as the abductors are demanding more money for his ransom.

The amount being demanded kept under wraps by members of the community who are currently involved in the negotiation.

Reports said that the community raised N5 million out of the N10 million initially demanded as ransom by the abductors.

A Source in the community said that negotiation is still ongoing to secure the release of the District Head.

It would be recalled that the gunmen had stormed Zugeru town with their motorcycles and went to the house of the District Head on foot where they took the man and his wives without any resistance from anybody.

As of the time of this report, the two wives were admitted to a medical centre for treatment and observation.
