JUST IN: Another WHO staffer test positive for COVID-19 in Bauchi

Another member of staff of the World Health Organization [WHO], Bauchi State Office has tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of current active cases in the state to three.

Two are from the WHO.

WuzupNigeria had on Sunday reported that a staffer of the WHO in Bauchi was confirmed positive after he went Kano and had contact with the Professor who was positive for the disease at a mosque in the state.

Speaking in Bauchi at 7.20 pm on Tuesday, the Executive Chairman of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rilwan Mohammed, confirmed another case at the WHO.

He said that the result of the new patient was gotten in the state at 1.00 pm on Tuesday from the National Center for Disease Control [NCDC], Abuja.

He said that the second case from the WHO is a contact of the first Staff who returned to Bauchi after having close contact with a positive patient in Kano state, a neighbouring state with Bauchi.

“Yes, we have an additional positive case in the state, the result was sent to me at about 1.00 pm today (Tuesday). He is a staff of the WHO, the second case there.

“This second case is the contact of the first staff who was confirmed positive after having a contact with the Kano Professor.

“I got the result at about 1.00pm today (Tuesday). We sent 15 samples who are contacts of the first WHO staff and one out of them came back positive, the remaining 14 were negative.”

He said that another 18 samples were taken and the results are being awaited.

“We took the samples of 18 other staff of the WHO today and we are expecting their result by tomorrow. Currently, these 18 staff of the WHO have gone into self-isolation,” he stated.

Meanwhile, a medical personnel working at one of the Bayara Isolation centre located at the General Hospital Bayara, said that a suspected case was brought into the hospital with symptoms of COVID-19 on Monday.

She said that patient was taken to the hospital and was exhibiting the symptoms of COVID-19 including mild difficulty in breathing.

She said:

“From what I gathered, he has a history of international travels. He was said to have returned into the country about two weeks ago. I don’t know which country he returned from but all I can te you is that he is currently at the Bayara Isolation Center.”

When our Correspondent sought for confirmation from Dr. Mohammed, he said that the sample of the said patient had been taken and the result is been awaited.

“It is not true but we took his sample today and sent for confirmation, his result is not yet out, we are still waiting for it,” he stated.
