The ex-wife of Nigerian footballer Jude Ighalo, Sonia, has publicly apologized to him for causing “drama” in his life.
In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram story, Sonia expressed her regrets and explained the difficulties of ending their relationship.
“Ending a relationship or friendship is always challenging for me,” Sonia wrote. She acknowledged that she and Jude had come a long way together and thanked God for the grace in their lives.
She also shared how both of them tried to make their marriage work despite facing a divorce.
Sonia spoke about the emotional pain Jude has endured, especially being separated from his family.
She expressed her understanding of how hard he worked to be a loving father and how he tried to keep his struggles private. “I understand the emotional pain you’re experiencing due to your separation from your beloved family,” she added.
Describing Jude as a “wonderful man,” Sonia promised to always support him and apologized for any negative effects her social media posts may have had. She stated, “I am using this opportunity to express my sincere apologies for the negative impact my posts may have had on you.”
The apology came after a recent online exchange between the former couple. Sonia had made a comment about Jude expecting another child with his fiancée, to which Jude responded by accusing her of being obsessed with him. Sonia chose not to respond directly, referencing past conflicts between them.
Sonia and Jude Ighalo married in 2009 but separated in 2020 after 10 years of marriage. Since their split, they have been involved in public disputes on social media. Despite their past struggles, Sonia concluded her message by wishing Jude the best and emphasizing their mutual forgiveness. “We’ve both forgiven each other and realized our mistakes,” she wrote.
The couple shares children and has continued to co-parent despite their differences.
