Jigawa man jailed 10 years over rape
The Jigawa State High Court No. 3 has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Sagiru Muhammad, to ten years in prison for raping a young girl.
It was reported by Daily Post that Sagiru Muhammad had lured the girl on the pretext of buying ‘tofu’ or ‘bean cake’ (awara), during which he had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
Justice M.A. Sambo, who delivered the judgment, held that the prosecution had successfully proved all the ingredients of the offense of rape through their witnesses, particularly that of the victim’s mother and the evidence of the forensic examiner that conducted a medical investigation on the girl.
The court, therefore, sentenced the defendant to ten years in prison, stating that the judgment is meant to serve as a deterrent to similar offenders.
