British podcaster and former monk Jay Shetty has expanded his growing media business after securing a major distribution deal for his popular “On Purpose” podcast.

According to Forbes, Shetty earned an estimated $21 million over the past 12 months through his former podcast distribution and advertising agreement with iHeartMedia. His latest partnership with Spotify and Netflix could reportedly be worth as much as $100 million.

Under the multiyear agreement, new video episodes of “On Purpose” began appearing on Netflix and Spotify in July. Older episodes and promotional clips remain available on YouTube, allowing the show to maintain its reach across several major platforms.

The agreement represents a significant step in Shetty’s transformation from a motivational speaker and former monk into one of the most influential figures in podcasting.

Jay Shetty podcast deal expands global reach

Shetty launched “On Purpose” in 2019, building the programme around conversations about relationships, mental health, personal growth and emotional well-being.

The podcast has featured celebrities, political figures, athletes and experts, helping Shetty attract a large international audience.

His collaboration with Netflix also reflects the growing competition among streaming services for popular podcasts and creator-led programmes.

Video episodes of the show are expected to reach viewers who may not regularly listen through traditional podcast platforms. Spotify will continue to distribute the audio and video versions to its global audience.

Shetty described the agreement as an important moment for podcasting, arguing that interviews can now influence culture in ways traditionally associated with television, films and music.

From monk to media entrepreneur

Shetty previously spent several years living as a monk before entering the corporate world and later becoming a content creator.

He built his public profile through motivational videos before launching books, courses, live events and wellness-related businesses.

The Forbes Daily Cover described him as a “monk-turned-mogul,” highlighting how he has transformed his personal brand into a wider commercial operation.

Beyond “On Purpose,” Shetty has expanded into publishing, coaching and other media projects. His books include “Think Like a Monk” and “8 Rules of Love.”

He also launched “Messy Love,” an Audible series featuring conversations with couples about relationship challenges.

Streaming platforms target podcast audiences

The reported $100 million Jay Shetty podcast deal reflects the increasing value placed on popular podcast hosts by entertainment companies.

Streaming platforms now compete for exclusive or premium video content as the distinction between podcasts, television interviews and online shows becomes less clear.

Netflix has traditionally focused on films and scripted television but has recently increased its investment in creator-led programmes.

Spotify has also signed major podcast agreements as it seeks to strengthen its position in both audio and video entertainment.

Forbes said Shetty’s estimated earnings place him among the highest-paid figures in podcasting. His expanding partnership with streaming platforms could further increase the value of his business and global audience.
