If you are currently searching for places to move to outside Nigeria you should probably avoid places with high cost of living driven by its competitive housing market, transportation costs, and high prices for goods and services.

The Cost of Living City Ranking 2024 holds Hong Kong and Singapore as the most expensive cities for expatriates. They hold the first and second spots on the list.

The survey compared the costs of over 200 items in each of the 226 cities studied, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment.

High inflation, rising economic and geopolitical tensions have driven up prices for housing, utilities, local taxes, and education, according to the report.

The survey features European cities as some of the most expensive places to live in. Zurich, Geneva, Basel, and Bern in Switzerland rank among the top ten. Along with the four Swiss cities, London is ranked 8th.

Other expensive European cities include Copenhagen (11th), Vienna (24th), Paris (29th), and Amsterdam (30th).

Dubai has become the most expensive city for international employees in the Middle East, ranking 15th globally, up three places from 2023. Tel Aviv is the next most expensive city in the region, at 16th place. Other costly cities in the Middle East include Abu Dhabi (43rd), Riyadh (90th), and Jeddah (97th).
