The President of the Ijaw Youths Council worldwide, Peter Igbifa on Wednesday breathed air of freedom following his abduction by masked gunmen two days ago.
WUZUPNIGERIA had earlier reported that Igbifa was abducted along the Port Harcourt International Road in Rivers State en route Abuja.
The news of his release was contained in a statement credited to the Kola Oredipe, Media Director of Bayelsa State Governor.

Oredipe told PUNCH that Igbifa was rescued by the police after his abductors dropped him off in a community in Bayelsa.

The IYC president was subsequently taken to Governor Douye Diri by the police following his release.

“He was dropped off in one of the communities in Bayelsa. Thereafter, the police rescued him. He was taken to the Governor. So he is in Yenagoa for now,” Oredipe stated.

However, Igbifa has claimed that he was abducted in an attempt to prevent the Ijaw Youths from their planned massive protest which eventually rocked Bayelsa on Wednesday.

“I didn’t know the places they took me to because I was blindfolded. All they wanted me to do was to call off the protest. They wanted me to do video asking the youths to back down.

“But I told them that I already did a video in the morning asking them to go ahead with the protest even if I was kidnapped, arrested or killed.

“They became frustrated when they saw the protest going on at many places in the region. I also told them that I won’t betray the principles of our struggle,” he said.
