The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Rivers State, Blessing Fubara, has stated that he has no godfather on his political journey except God the Father.
He distanced his political ambition from the influence of his elder brother, Governor Sim Fubara, insisting that his quest for the state’s top office is based on personal conviction and not family ties.
Speaking on Friday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, the NDC flagbearer said his political journey is guided by his own vision and principles. He maintained that he is not operating under the influence of any political benefactor and relies solely on divine guidance.
“I don’t have a godfather but I have God the father. You would also agree with me that if my ambition is determined by the grounds you are mentioning, it would mean I have no clear vision or focus for what I am working toward,” he said.
Fubara further dismissed claims that his governorship bid is linked to the political structure or influence of the Rivers State governor. According to him, he and his brother hold different political beliefs and should not be viewed as pursuing the same agenda.
“My brother, Nigerians, and indeed the wider world saw what happened between him and his party. We have different political ideologies and individual perspectives,” he stated.
Commenting on the political climate in Rivers State, the NDC candidate acknowledged the various narratives surrounding developments in the state but stressed that his attention remains fixed on what he described as a mission to restore the state’s fortunes.
“It’s a trying moment for us in Rivers State and there are all sorts of narratives. They come with different narratives and try to set up a perspective for the people to run with but we are focused with our eyes on the ball that the soul of Rivers State must be rescued,” he added.
Blessing Fubara joined the governorship race on the platform of the NDC after parting ways with the All Progressives Congress (APC). Since declaring his candidacy, he has consistently portrayed himself as a contender offering a new political direction for Rivers State.
