Indian software engineer dies after fall from seventh-floor with lover

A 23-year-old software engineer died and her 30-year-old boyfriend was seriously injured after the two allegedly fell from the seventh-floor terrace of a co-living PG accommodation in Whitefield, India. on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased, Janani, was working as a software engineer with a financial services company in Pattanduru Agrahara near Whitefield. Police identified the injured man as Manikya Velu.

According to the police, Janani and Velu, both natives of Puducherry, had been in a relationship for six years. Police said Velu had recently got engaged to another woman, following which the couple allegedly began quarrelling frequently.

Janani had reportedly rented a room at the PG accommodation only on Saturday and was staying there with Velu, police said.

The couple allegedly had a quarrel on Sunday morning before heading to the terrace. Police suspect Janani may have decided to end her life by jumping from the building and allegedly pulled Velu along with her. The two fell from the terrace at around 12.15pm.

Janani died at the spot, while Velu sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Whitefield, where he is undergoing treatment and is reportedly out of danger.

“Once Velu is in a condition to give his statement, we will question him and know further details about the incident,” a Senior police officer said.

Velu works for a logistics company in Puducherry. Police have registered an unnatural death report at Whitefield Police Station based on a complaint filed by Janani’s aunt.
