A former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial, Shehu Sani, has cautioned against the attacks on establishments belonging to the Nigerian Police Force and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the South-Eastern region.

Sani’s comment was a reaction to the latest raid on the B Division of the Nigeria Police Divisional Station and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by unknown gunmen in Akwa, Anambra, on Sunday.

WUZUPNIGERIA had reported that the spate of attacks, amidst insecurity in the country, led to an emergency INEC meeting chaired by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, with Resident Electoral Commissioners at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja some days ago.

Before yesterday’s attack, at least 23 structures belonging to INEC had been attacked by unknown persons, including two offices razed in fresh attacks in Ebonyi and Ezza North Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State on May 18.

Similarly, there have been cases of attacks on police stations in the South-East part of the country, claiming the lives of police officers as well as the destruction of establishments belonging to the force.

However, Sani in a tweet on Monday, warned that the southeast could end up like the Northeastern part of the country which is facing an alarming rate of banditry, terrorism, amongst others.

Sani who represented his district between 2015 and 2019,disclosed that the attacks on law enforcement in the southeast is a prelude to anarchy, terrorism and disorder.

“The attacks on Police formations and INEC facilities in the southeast must be resisted by the people of the South-East; to prevent the region from finding itself in the situation of the North East. Crippling law enforcement is a prelude to anarchy, Terrorism and disorder.” Sani tweeted to his 1.9million followers.
