Tensions mount as Ikotun KAI officials sack traders after receiving N10m bribe
There has been tension in Ikotun area of Lagos after the Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI operatives invaded some roadside shops in the area and carted away goods from traders after allegedly collecting a huge amount of money (N10m) from the operatives of Tricycle Union to create space for a park.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that having collected the money, the KAI operatives stormed in front of the house located at No. 1 Ijegun Road close to Ikotun roundabout claiming that the Lagos State Government directed them to create a place for tricycle operators through the Ministry of Transportation for a park.
The traders, whose goods were seized, were later released on condition that they will vacate that particular place for tricycle operators to have their park. However, the traders are poised for resistance having discovered that there were no such directives from the State Government.
According to P.M.EXPRESS, the Lagos State Government and KAI management may not have officially collected such money from the tricycle operators but rather through the bad eggs among might have done so.
According to the traders, the problem about started three weeks ago when the tricycle operators in the area claimed that they have given the Lagos State Government the money and will use KAI to chase away the traders from that particular place.
KAI officers then stormed the place, carted away some goods and obtained about N300,000 before they released some and asked them to leave the place but other areas within were not touched.
It was later that one of the KAI officers sent there revealed that they targeted the place because they were aware that the owner of the house had died and his widow wife and children cannot stop the plan to open a park in front of the house.
The traders are calling on the Lagos State Government and KAI management to call their workers to order in order not to cause anything that will bring a breach of public peace and equally fish out the bad eggs among who are spoiling the image of KAI and government over their conduct.
Meanwhile, the Hausa and Igbo traders, who dominated the place and whose goods were seized, were said not to be happy about the incident as they were the targets.
