IGP imposes restrictions for bye-elections in 26 states

The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has issued directives for restrictions during the upcoming bye-elections in 26 states on Saturday.

The restrictions include a ban on vehicular movement, encompassing roads, waterways, and other transportation modes from 12 am to 6 pm.

Egbetokun also ordered the prohibition of security aides for VIPs at polling booths. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed the message, stating, “The Inspector General of Police, Okukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation from 12 am to 6 pm on election day in all states where elections will be conducted.”

Exceptions to the vehicular movement ban include individuals on essential services, such as INEC officials, electoral observers, accredited media, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, and firefighters.

Adejobi emphasized that election security management would not involve state-established and owned security entities, quasi-security units, and privately owned guard and security outfits.

The affected states include Ebonyi, Yobe, Kebbi, Lagos, Ondo, Taraba, Benue, Borno, Kaduna, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Jigawa, Katsina, Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, Oyo, Sokoto, and Zamfara.
