IGP assures voters of readiness for Bayelsa, other elections

Published

Acting Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun has assured voters in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states that the police high command has implemented sufficient security measures to ensure the safety and security of the upcoming November 11 elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Egbetokun said that the police have more personnel available for these elections than they did for the general elections.

He also said the police are ready to deploy their personnel to all polling stations and other strategic locations in the three states.

Egbetokun urged voters to adhere to the electoral laws and refrain from engaging in any acts of violence. He also urged voters to be law-abiding and exercise their franchise without fear, as the police will be on the ground to guarantee their safety.

We have prepared. We are ready and very soon, we will start deployment,” Egbetokun said. “We deliberately decided to take this year’s Police Conference and Retreat to one of the states where we are having the election. The conference and retreat is coming just less than two weeks before the election. The conference would be two weeks to the election, so it is deliberate and not by accident that we chose that state and that date. It is also to show to the public that we are ready for the election.”
