‘I will not hire you’, HR officer Amaka job-shames applicant, Twitter reacts
Nigerians on social media are presently dragging and lambasting a Human Resources Officer, Amaka Anku, over her tweet chiding a job applicant and declaring that the applicant would never get a job placement at her organisation.
Amaka, according to her Twitter bio, is believed to be an HR officer with Eurasia Group, a political risk consultancy firm with offices in different parts of the world.
She took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to share a screenshot of her email conversation with a job applicant who had mailed her to express frustration over the lack of communication he was subjected to following his job application and referral by a top member of the Eurasia Group.
She, however, did not reveal what had transpired between her and the applicant before the mail she shared on Twitter.
Amaka in the tweet wrote,
“Under NO circumstances should you send this sort of email to a hiring manager.”
She further declared that,
“Even if you were recommended by the CEO, I WILL NOT hire you. Beyond foolish.”
The tweet has, however, evoked negative reactions from Nigerians on Twitter who have been expressing rage over her declaration that the applicant will not be hired.
Some of those who reacted noted that it is fast becoming a trend among Nigerian HR officers to take to social media to mock applicants and share some opinions about job applications that are not always accepted by the public.
WuzupNaija reports that a few months ago, a Canada-based Nigerian lady identified as Taiwo (@taiwo__y), took to her Twitter page to shame a young job applicant who complimented her by saying:
“You smell nice”
She denied the young man the job over the compliment. Her action generated several backlashes from Nigerians who believe there was nothing wrong with the compliment and condemned Taiwo for taking pride in her action.
A few months after Taiwo and her “you smell nice” trend, Nigerians are currently dragging Amaka for ‘playing God’ as an HR officer.

Amaka you are frustrated. You have trended. Now I look forward to you being unemployed. Companies need to start sacking HRs like Amaka, it doesn’t speak well image. If you have personal issue with the applicant, sort it. Stop acting like a full time witch https://t.co/awK7KjVhOZ

This Amaka case just goes a long way to stamp my belief that when you give a woman little power, she begins to feel that she’s above all and will later come here to cry victim that men don’t give them the chance to get to the top.
How will they allow you??

This Amaka issue reminds me of the previous HR at my workplace. She spoke to people in the most uncultured way. Treated people like sh.t but the day she was sacked was like film trick to her. The gatemen were even laughing at her while she cried herself out. Be nice to people! ?

Come, Amaka! What is the name of your company and CEO so I can tag him here so he can see you saying how you won’t hire the person he has recommended for the job. Perhaps he will fire you and give that guy your job. You look matured so act your age and stop clout chasing??♂️

Amaka, have you read & digested the “HR Code of Ethics & Rules of Professional Conduct?”
These ones apply to you:
– Enhance public image of profession
– Courtesy and civility
– Give independent advise to individuals
– Act as a mentor
– Do not retaliate when someone complains https://t.co/5b6XO1BmBZ— Tunde Omotoye ?? (@TundeTASH) May 29, 2019
Dear Nigerians,
I urge us all to restrain from naming our daughters Amaka so as to allow the already existing ones go into extinction.
This will help curb the rate of disappointing situations we facing.Signed

Hello Amaka, the writer is clearly reacting to the frustration he was subjected to. Seems you rendered yourself incommunicado for long time and when you were going to reply, you did as if you had never spoken to him b4. You guys must return the humanity in human resources.

Ms Amaka,
It will be wrong to share just this single email without sharing preceding correspondence(s).
Besides, the person is asking you to do your job by responding to queries/emails fast.
“I WILL NOT hire you”. Should you be reminded that you were hired too?
Thanks https://t.co/ScMWXBiocB

Isn’t this a Confidential information Amaka?
All this Diego Costa-like behavior is uncalled for, something was sent to your email, handle it there and don’t bring it to Social media.
This throws a lot of uncertainty on your Ability to keep private matters private. https://t.co/OLucQ4oOuV
