Husband surprises wife by chopping off her fingers
A jealous husband may be jailed for life after he chopped off his wife’s fingers because she did not seek his permission to further her education.
According to The Times, the 30-year-old Rafiqul Islam from Bangladesh blindfolded his wife Hawa Akhter, 21, put a tape in her mouth, and told her he was going to give her a present.
He then cut off her fingers while a relative threw them into the bin so that doctors would find it difficult to attach the chopped off fingers.
Islam, who was a migrant in the United Arab Emirates, was said to have warned the wife not to furthers her education but would face severe consequences if she dared to. ‘After he came back to Bangladesh, he wanted to have a discussion with me,’ Ms Akhter told The Times.
Akter said, “After he came back to Bangladesh, he wanted to have a discussion with me.
“Suddenly, he blindfolded me and tied my hand. He also taped my mouth saying that he would give me some surprise gifts. But, instead he cut off my fingers.’ Mohammed Saluddin, the Bangladesh police chief said that Mr Islam had confessed after he was arrested in the capital, Dhaka, and will face charges of permanent disfiguration.

However, human rights groups are demanding life imprisonment.
