How Buhari died despite N70m ransom payment

Bandits have killed a victim, Usman Buhari, despite receiving a N70 million ransom from his family in Niger State.

Buhari was abducted on Monday, September 29, 2025, along with Permanent Commissioner II of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, Ahmad Mohammed, former Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhassan Bawa Niworo, and several other travellers on the Mokwa–New Bussa Road in Borgu Local Council.

News of Buhari’s death was conveyed by the emissary who delivered the ransom to the kidnappers’ camp, according to Guardian.

The development became public on Friday, November 14, 2025, after reports indicated that he had endured severe torture while in captivity.

The victim was a brother to Babangida Jibrin, a veteran journalist known for his work with DW Radio and the Voice of America, Hausa Service.

As of now, the Niger State Government and security agencies have not released any official statement regarding the incident.
