Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set to undergo medical treatment in Amsterdam on Thursday ahead of finalizing a two-and-a-half-year deal with Ajax from Al Ettifaq.

The agreement on the terms of the deal was reached late on Wednesday night.

A delegation from the Dutch club had traveled to Manchester on Wednesday to conclude the negotiations for Henderson’s contract, as reported by Sky Sports News.

Ajax, currently facing RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie on Sunday, hopes that the addition of Henderson will strengthen their push for European qualification, with the team currently trailing league leaders PSV by 23 points.

The move comes after Al Ettifaq agreed to terminate Henderson’s contract earlier this week, enabling his departure from Saudi Arabia.

Henderson had made 19 appearances for Al Ettifaq, a team coached by his former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard.

Notably, Henderson’s transfer marks a significant development in the Saudi Pro League, where clubs made nearly 100 signings in a £750 million spending spree last summer. Henderson is the first high-profile departure from the league following this extensive recruitment period.
