Gunmen shot Zamfara ex-lawmaker, kill two

Gunmen on Wednesday afternoon attacked motorists on the Funtua-Gusau highway in Zamfara State, shooting a former member of the House of Representatives Kabiru Yahaya in the process. The gunmen also killed two travellers and abducted several persons.

The attack took place between Kucheri-Magazu in Tsafe Local Government.

Kabiru Yahaya is a former House of Representatives member of Mafara/Anka in Zamfara State.

His media aide, Musbahu Aliyu, explained that the terrorists blocked the highway and started shooting at vehicles passing through the area around 3:30 pm

He said Yahaya was the only one taken to Tsafe General Hospital alive and he is currently receiving medical treatment.

“The terrorists timed the arrival of vehicles to and from Gusau and started to shoot indiscriminately which led to the blockage of the road,”

“No one knows the number of those killed or abducted. They abducted all the passengers in the first vehicle,” Aliyu said.

Another witness named Murtala reported hearing gunshots before reaching Tsafe and witnessed several military vehicles heading towards the scene.

The police spokesperson in the state, Yazid Abubakar, has yet to provide any statement on this incident.
