No fewer than three people have been killed and two others injured during a gun attack at the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway construction project in Maiyama Local Council Area of Kebbi State.

The victims included two security operatives and an expatriate working on the road project, while two civilians sustained gunshot injuries.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, the incident occurred at a construction site in Gubba Village when suspected Lakurawa terrorists allegedly encroached from the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto State and attacked the site.

He said two civilians were also injured and later evacuated for medical attention. The police also repelled another attack by suspected terrorists along the Birnin Malam axis following the intervention of tactical teams.

According to him, construction activities at the affected site have been suspended following the incident, as security agencies intensify surveillance and deploy more operatives to the area.

Usman said scores of the attackers were neutralised by military personnel, and several motorcycles were recovered.

In another development, gunmen also killed a youth leader and former chairman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Gashish District, Rwas Danladi, and injured two others in separate attacks in Barkin Ladi and other parts of Plateau State.

Danladi was reportedly attacked at about 6 pm on Wednesday, around Rantis Village along the Gashish-Barkin Ladi Road while returning to Barkin Ladi on his motorcycle.

The BYM confirmed the killing on Thursday in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong. The association condemned the killing and extended its condolences to his family, friends and the entire Gashish community, describing Danladi as a respected community leader.

The association said other attacks were also recorded across parts of the Berom communities on Wednesday, leaving two persons injured.

They included Mafeng Samuel Lamba, who was attacked around Gwom-Ajang in Foron and was taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment, and Bitrus Pam Dadon, who was attacked along Sho Road and had his motorcycle stolen.

The group called on the Plateau State Government and the relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the killing, arrest those responsible, and strengthen surveillance along vulnerable roads and communities in Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom and other affected areas.
