Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has become popular along with other big names in the industry after he sent out a tweet claiming he’s the best to ever to do it since Late Legendary singer and Activist, Fela Anikulapo-kuti.

Burna Boy who lost out in winning an award at the 2020 Grammys, had earlier tweeted this:

FACT! I always knew I was and I am THE BEST. Everyone you think is the best KNOWS I’m BEST since Fela Kuti. But @timayatimaya told me something a long time ago that made me not care about being the best. “The World can do without the Best” the world will still spin regardless.

A twitter user who felt this was a diss to his seniors in the industry, asked where he was when afrobeat was “crawling” between 2010-2018. In response, Burna Boy wrote ;

Lol. NOBODY paved shit for me. Everybody dey find them own. I bin Out here, if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I’m the one that brought you the Respect you currently enjoy.

Some people actually agreed with his claim while others totally disagreed and didn’t fail to let him know

Burna boy can only be mentioned if it’s about artists that have been delivering for like 3 years ago.

But if the debate is about THE BEST, that should be about artists dat have been delivering nonstop for over a decade, that list is for the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Olamide & Co.
