Gov. Mohammed congratulates Bauchi NUJ over election

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state on Saturday congratulated the State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the successful conduct of its election.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Muktar Gidado, his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media.

According to him, the governor appreciated the level of maturity exhibited by all candidates in the electioneering process, adding that the pen pushers in the state practice what they preach.

“His Excellency, Gov. Bala Mohammed (Kauran Bauchi), the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, congratulates the Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the successful conduct of its elections.

“As a veteran journalist himself, Gov. Bala Mohammed has noted with pride the maturity exhibited by all candidates in the electioneering process.

“He said it is an indication that journalists in Bauchi State practice what they preach.

“While felicitating with Comrade Umar Sa’idu new State Working Committee, the governor urged them to work toward ridding the journalism profession of quacks masquerading as journalists,” Gidado said.

He noted that the state government urged journalists to continue to cooperate with the state government to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

“Gov. Bala Mohammed also assures the new State Working Committee of the NUJ the support of his government at all times,” Gidado said.

The Newsmen, reports that the offices of Chairman, Secretary, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, and Assistant Secretary were keenly contested for, while the other positions were declared unopposed.

Alhaji Umar Sa’id of the State Information Chapel was elected chairman, having polled 150 votes to defeat Bashir Idris of the Bauchi State Radio Corporation.

Malam Abbas Maikano of the NTA emerged Vice Chairman with 114 votes to beat Hashimu Bulkachuwa, while Mr. Garba Gadau was elected Secretary of the council with 120 votes after defeating his sole challenger, Malam Kabir Garba of Bauchi Radio who got 107 votes.

Mr. Abubakar Waziri became the Treasurer with 162 votes to beat Mr. Mohammed Inuwa of Globe FM who scored 62 votes

The post of Assistant Secretary went to Hajiya Adama Ibrahim of the state Information Chapel with 205 votes to defeat Mr. Sani Muazu of the same state Information Chapel who scored 84 votes.
