Gov Abba Yusuf dismisses APC invitation

Published

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state on Friday stated his commitment to the New Nigeria People’s Party, the platform through which he secured victory in the gubernatorial polls.

This declaration comes in response to an invitation extended by Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, urging Yusuf to defect to the APC.

Yusuf’s stance remains resolute despite Ganduje’s entreaties during a stakeholders’ meeting in Kano on Thursday, January 25.

Ganduje, aiming to bolster the APC’s political foothold, implored Yusuf, along with his NNPP associates, to transition to the ruling party, emphasizing the party’s commitment to expanding its membership base through e-registration initiatives.

In a statement issued by his media director, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf rebuffed Ganduje’s overtures, underscoring his allegiance to the NNPP.

We heard that he (Ganduje) is begging the Governor to join the APC. What is surprising is, that Ganduje as a former governor and former deputy governor, knows better than anyone the right channel to send a message to a sitting governor.

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf does not have plans to leave his party and will not leave the party.

The statement furthered, “Changing a political party is like changing a house. You just cannot wake up, pack your bags, and say I have left my party. There are things to be done before you decide to change your house.”

Moreover, Ganduje lauded the Supreme Court verdict and President Bola Tinubu’s support for the Kano state APC during the gathering.

He hinted at impending defections from smaller parties nationwide, asserting that Yusuf’s accession to the APC would fortify the party’s position both in Kano and nationally, facilitating developmental strides in the state.
