The agony road users go through on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway will soon become a thing of the past, as contractors have been re-mobilised to site to finish the long awarded contract for the reconstruction of the ever busy road.
This was made known in a post shared on the Twitter handle of APC Nigeria @APCNigeria, captioned; Progress Report on Rehabilitation, Reconstruction & Expansion of Section 2 of Lagos – Ibadan Expressway (Shagamu-lbadan) #GovtAtWork
Recall that recently the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed that funding for the Lagos-Ibadan expressway is captured in the 2016 budget, noting that the road will be constructed despite court injunctions against its further development.
The Federal Government on June 21, 2013, awarded the contract for the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan expressway to Julius Berger and RCC Nigeria Limited, both of which were expected to deliver the job quickly.
The project was first awarded to Bi-Courtney Highway Services, owned by lawyer-entrepreneur, Dr. Wale Babalakin, but lost the concession to repair, upgrade and manage the 106-kilometre road.
The project which has been going on for years now has finally kick started again as contractors have been re-mobilised to site. The project has been at a snail pace, if not work ought to have been concluded by now.
