Gbajabiamila blocks motion demanding Pantami’s sack
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Wednesday, blocked the motion seeking the sack or resignation of Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.
WuzupNigeria reported that Pantami, before his appointment as a minister in the cabinet of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), reportedly supported extremist Islamist sects al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
The revelation has put the minister under fire as Nigerians call for his resignation.
However, during the Reps’ plenary on Wednesday, the Minority Leader of the House, Ndudi Elumelu, called on the House to demand resignation or sack of Pantimi.
The Punch reports that Elumelu raised a point of order to demand that the House acts on the minister’s resignation or sack.
Elumelu’s motion was overruled by Gbajabiamila, noting that the matter being raised had nothing to do with his privilege as a lawmaker.
“Your point of order is noted,” Gbajabiamila said and hit the gavel.
